Art of Verne : Underground Collection

Captain Cannabis creator Verne Andru found a ready vehicle for his awesome talents in the underground press emerging in the wake of Robert Crumb’s Zap Comics sensation in the sixties and seventies. The Art of Verne Underground Collection is the first time his early work, now long out of print, has been assembled under a single cover. Angel starts this volume as it did his career, being one of his first published works. It’s also his first of many collaborations with DC/Marvel artist George Freeman that made possible their subsequent work together on Captain Canuck. The bulk of the material is from Jim McPherson’s Phantacea Mythos, a collaboration rekindled with the 2008 release of Jim’s novel, Feeling Theocidal, once again bearing Verne’s cover art. A special thanks goes out to Jim whose gracious approval allows us to reprint these pages and make this volume possible. Verne started on Rats toward the end of the 1970’s and is proud to see it make its publishing debut. Words have never been penned, so consider it a "silent comic" and go crazy and come up with your own. And no underground collection would be complete without a sampler from Verne’s "420" project featuring the "Captain Cannabis"® origin story. | ||||
