With life as he knows it at its end, Hal goes to the back of
the bike. He takes the duffle by one hand and pauses. Butts
takes the que to turn seriously aggressive. Hal relents and
is about to open the zipper when someone yells from an
ARMY HUMVEE
full of happy ex-border guards.
HOMELAND SECURITY GUARD 2
Butts. We're gone. We'll tell serge you
like it so much you decided to stay.
Butts pushes his nightstick deep into Hal's chest, getting
his foul breath right in his anguished face.
BUTTS
I run out of time. Too bad. But if I ever
seez yooz again...
Another HONK and Butts is off in a run, jumping into the jeep
as it drives off. Marion pulls a petrified Hal to the bike.
MARION
You like it here?
HAL
My ID..?
MARION
Fuck the ID.
EXT. MARION'S APARTMENT BUILDING - LATER
Hal's bike rumbles at the curb.
HAL
Dude, that was so lucky at the border.
MARION
Told ya.
She opens the damp backpack. The semi-conscious creature
looks up to her and sneezes. She puts in her arm...
MARION (CONT'D)
Aw, poor little thing.
...pulling out a bundle of pot before turning to leave.
HAL
That's it? After all we've been through?
She stops, turning in thought.
MARION
What can I say Hal? People said you were
a jerk. I didn't believe them. And you
know, I was right. Now that I've spent a
few days getting to know the real you, I
don't think you're a jerk...
ANGLE ON HAL
Looking smugly at Marion.
MARION
...sigh I know you're a jerk. Since you
kidnapped me my life's been a living
hell. Stay away from me or I'll call the
cops.
HAL
But, but, what about our kid?
Marion's already up the sidewalk.
MARION
You make a cute couple.
HAL
But I don't do responsibility.
With out further adieu, Marion disappears toward her
apartment building. Hal lowers his goggles and drives off.
HAL (CONT'D)
There goes prime directive number two.
EXT. MARINA PARKING LOT - LATER
Hal stealthily rolls the motorcycle behind his parked bus.
ANGLE ON
Jason and the Tow-Tug operator play cards while waiting for
Hal to return.
JASON
He'll show. He's gotta dock somewhere.
In the video monitor, Hal loads the bike into the back of the
bus. Grabbing the backpack, he sneaks to the passenger-side
door and out of sight. The two in the Marina notice a puff of
smoke spewing from the bus as it starts.
TOW-TUG OP
Hey, ain't that that son-of-a-bitch's
bus?
They run to the parking lot as the bus lumbers into traffic.
JASON
You bastard! I'll get you for this!
INT. HAL'S BUS
Hal watches through his rearview window as he grinds gears.
HAL
He-he, so long suckers.
After a BEAT a noise attracts him. Looking down he finds the
backpack bumping around on the floor.
HAL (CONT'D)
Oops, forgot about you.
He pulls the bus over. Opening the backpack, a very
disoriented oKee crawls out, holding his ears in pain.
WHAT OKEE SEES
Everything is a swirl of confused, jumbled sights and sounds.
Images of thoughts swirl around Hal's head; hoagie
sandwiches, joints, breasts, guitars and groupies. Random
thoughts and noises from the hectic city permeate everything.
COSMIC COUNCIL - V.O.
(recedes into background)
It's the realm of chaos. You are the
STRANGE ATTRACTOR. You'll have super
powers. Memories fade. For a time you'll
hear us directly. Seek the diamond heart.
Only pure unselfish love...
HAL
What's the matter little dude?
There's a faint but noticeable white glow from Hal's heart
area.
NORMAL VIEW
oKee tries crawling into Hal's lap to shut out the noise as
Hal roots in his pockets. Producing some earplugs he holds
one up and demonstrates before stuffing them in oKee's ears.
HAL
Ear plugs. They go in like this. Keep the
noise out. Easy, they don't hurt.
Once they're in, oKee settles into a state of anxiety.
HAL (CONT'D)
Look little dude, I don't know what your
trip is, but you can't stay with me.
oKee grabs his ears again as a siren blares behind the bus.
HAL (CONT'D)
Shit. Stay outa sight.
There's a banging on the window as he stuffs oKee in a cubby
behind the drivers seat. Popping in the drivers seat, he
faces a city cop about to write a ticket.
COP
No parking zone. Move or I'll have you
towed.
Hal grinds the bus in gear.
HAL
Sorry. Had to securing something. Man,
this shit's just too weird.
EXT. CAMPGROUND ESTABLISHING - LATER
The bus pulls into a secluded campsite. Its off-season and
the few campers there are are in expensive RV's. Once parked,
Hal finds his new buddy still crammed in the cubby.
HAL
You can come out now little dude.
Nobody'll bug us here for a few days.
EXT. BUS
Hal walks around and opens the back door. Aside from his
bike, it's stuffed with a mix of camp/living stuff, misc.
electronics and the bands gear. The bus is Hal's home away
from home. Producing a lawn chair and a beer, he settles down
to ponder while he drinks. The shaky alien, glowing bright
green now, looks nervously outside the open bus door.
WHAT OKEE SEES
It's considerably calmer than in the city. The jumble of
images isn't as intense and sounds more melodic.
Images continue to swirl around Hal's head, but are now of
nature, camping and Marion with the odd 'weird' image tossed
in the mix. The faint glow around his heart area is a bit
brighter here.
HAL
'Camp-ing'. It's how we get in touch
nature, burp.
ANGLE ON LUXURY CAMPERS
belying his statement.
HAL
Damn, I used to have a home and was free
as a bird. You show up and both prime
directives get bust in one day. Gimme one
good reason why I shouldn't just drive
off and leave you here?
oKee appears totally helpless, touching Hal in a soft spot it
isn't cool to acknowledge he has.
HAL (CONT'D)
Guess you don't have a home either? Kinda
makes us even.
After a BEAT, Hal points to himself.
HAL (CONT'D)
Me HAL
(pointing)
you...?
oKee mimics by pointing to Hal who hears but doesn't see his
mouth move.
OKEE - V.O.
Haa..?
HAL
Whoa. Do that again. Me Hal.
OKEE - V.O.
Haarr..?
HAL
Not har dude, Hal. What's your name?
OKEE - V.O.
(to Hal)
Haarrrt?
(to himself)
Ho-kee.
HAL
Hokee-Dokey. How cum I'm not surprised?
oKee watches as Hal retrieves his ever-present sandwich from
a back pocket and takes a big bite.
HAL (CONT'D)
Hungry?
Hal offers the sandwich, but oKee makes a sour face.
HAL (CONT'D)
Forgot. You eat pot. Well maybe you can
get it at the corner store back home, but
they toss your ass in jail for even
thinking about it here.
Hal gets the remaining bundle of pot from the duffle. oKee
sniffs it, tastes some, but makes the same sour face.
HAL (CONT'D)
Ya don't even like your own shit?
Hal gives it a sniff. A ray of sun hits and vitalizes oKee.
HAL (CONT'D)
Hey, this is Mikey's bud. Ho,
ho...someone's in for a surprise. Marion
took the wrong pot.
Silently at first, voices swell from all around.
OKEE - V.O.
You must help. The end will come.
HAL
Like, I feel for ya, but little green
dudes just don't fit into my plan.
As oKee focuses he glows brighter. Hal grabs his temples.
OKEE - V.O.
Unselfish thoughts we must have only.
HAL
Ouch! That hurts. Forget it dude! It's,
like, every dude for himself. Stop it!
Get out of my head!
Hal slaps himself across the face, snapping himself out of
it. As he glares, tears well in oKee's eyes.
HAL (CONT'D)
Are those tears? Shit, don't cry dude, I
can't stand crying.
OKEE - V.O.
Hart must help.
HAL
That's Hal, dude. Look, tell ya what. You
and Marion hit it off, right? You know,
mom? Stop crying and I'll take ya to find
her, okay?
OKEE
Smother?
oKee stops crying. Hal settles back and takes a shot of his
beer.
HAL
You seriously need a lesson in Earth 101
American style.
INT. HUGE VAULTED CAVERN
Mikey is asleep at the console. An alarm sounds and the
holoscreen displays Marion just outside the Sentinel rise
area, startling him to consciousness.
MARION
Mikey? You there?
MIKEY
Marion?
He manipulates some controls causing the holoscreen to do a
3D revolution around her, revealing some Marines hiding in
the bushes.
MIKEY (CONT'D)
A traitor, eh?
EXT. SENTINEL RISE/CONTINUOUS TIME
Marion turns to the bushes pleadingly, but she's motioned to
stay put. She looks up, startled to see Mikey at the top of
the rise in paramilitary garb carrying a machine gun.
MARION
That was fast.
MIKEY
Indeed. We meet again so soon.
Like a band of wild animals a few marines wearing berets, and
one without, burst from the bushes. Pushing Marion aside,
they open fire. Mikey stands unfazed as they pour out rounds
of hot lead. Their sergeant, patch over his left eye, reigns
them back.
MARINE CO
Hold your fire damn it. We're Berets, not
pit bulls.
MARINE 1
Doesn't matter sir. The bullets go right
through im!
The image of Mikey appears on the other side of the rise.
MIKEY
That's 'cause I'm over here guys.
MARINE 3
Bastard! Get him.
As they rush up, the Sentinels spring to life, moving to
surround the awe struck mercenaries.
MARINE 1
Sweet geezus!
The lasers glow and with a FIERY ZAP a marine goes down.
MARINE CO
I said hold your fire!
MARINE 3
We're surrounded sir.
Standing back to back, the Sentinels circle in, lasers
striking the ground within a few feet.
MARINE 2
Orders, sir?
MARINE CO
Now you want to follow orders?
The CO pulls out a hand-grenade and pops the pin.
MARINE CO (CONT'D)
Nothin in the manual against off-duty
landscaping.
He tosses. The target sentinel crumbles in the explosion.
Others follow.
One marine gets zapped, but his grenade rolls close enough to
shatter its victim. As the last of the Sentinels crumbles,
the CO presses his squad on.
MARINE CO (CONT'D)
We'll come back for wounded later. Secure
our position first.
EXT. MIKEY'S MOUNTAIN TOP - LATER
With Marion in tow, they arrive at Mikey's yard.
MARINE CO
JOHNSON, the cabin. HICKS, SMITH, secure
the perimeter. BUTTS, get your ass over
here. Bring the girl.
Butts drags Marion to the CO as he lights a cigar.
MARION
Get your hands off me you ape.
MARINE CO
Where's your hat soldier?
BUTTS
Permission to speak sir?
MARINE CO
Didn't know you could.
BUTTS
I'm Delta serge. Berets are lame.
Troy stares Butts down long and hard.
MARINE CO
You came over from CIA, didn't you? Lame
ass civvie outfit.
He menacingly peels off his shirt, exposing his bulging
muscles. He points to his upper arm.
MARINE CO (CONT'D)
What's this say soldier?
ANGLE ON SPECIAL FORCES TATOO - BERET ON SKULL&BONES
BUTTS - O.S.
Mess with the best. Die like the rest,
sir.
FAVOURING MARINE CO AND BUTTS
MARINE CO
What were you saying about berets?
BUTTS
Point made, sir.
Butts quickly pulls a beret from a back pocket and puts it on
his head. The CO buttons his shirt then turns to Marion.
MARINE CO
Now this UFO. Where exactly?
She points to the bushes. The CO barks at Butts.
MARINE CO (CONT'D)
Thank you. Butts, get on it.
JOHNSON - V.O.
TROY, ain't no one home.
Troy, the CO, takes a long draw on his cigar.
SERGEANT TROY
Where's your friend?
MARION
Isn't he in there?
SERGEANT TROY
We've had a major breach of US National
Security and there's a maniac running
around up here with god knows what alien
technology. Now I want to know where he
is, and I want to know now!
MARION
Look, I was kidnapped okay. I've only
been here once, now let me go.
Hicks and Smith return.
HICKS
Perimeter clear serge.
Butts comes back from the ship holding a GOLD BAR bearing an
ALIEN-LOOKING SEAL.
BUTTS
A couple crates of these and some plants
that glow.
SERGEANT TROY
Bingo! Smith, Johnson, Butts you're with
me. Hicks send word to HQ. Alien invasion
confirmed. Request Delta designation now.
And airborne backup. Come on boys, we
have a camp to set up. Time to dig in.
MARION
You said I could...
SERGEANT TROY
(interrupting)
I lied. Give me your friend and I may be
persuaded to reconsider.
MARION
But I don't know where he is. I swear.
BUTTS
Serge, can I have her now? I got a strip
search to finish.
